How Wilderness Wear Shifted from Local Australian Packaging to Long-Term Custom Packaging Supply

How Wilderness Wear Shifted from Local Australian Packaging to Long-Term Custom Packaging Supply

For more than 30 years, Wilderness Wear built its reputation around premium Australian-made apparel and wool products. Its packaging had also been sourced locally, so moving production offshore required more than a competitive quote. PackCCP earned the opportunity by benchmarking quality with production-standard samples, supporting low-risk trial orders, and proving consistency across magnetic gift boxes and custom mailer packaging.

00  Project Overview

Wilderness Wear had long sourced its packaging in Australia, so the first barrier was not design—it was trust. The brand needed to know whether an overseas supplier could match the quality, responsiveness, and consistency expected from a premium Australian-made product line. Rather than asking the client to switch suppliers immediately, PackCCP created production-standard samples across the packaging range and let the comparison happen through the physical result itself.

01  The Challenges

Local Supply Was the Existing Benchmark

The client was accustomed to buying packaging in Australia. Any new supplier had to prove that moving production overseas would not mean sacrificing finish quality, communication, or control.

Premium Products Needed Matching Packaging

Wilderness Wear’s positioning around high-end wool and Australian-made products meant the packaging could not feel like a lower-cost substitute. Both magnetic gift boxes and mailer packaging needed to support the same premium brand perception.

Trust Had to Be Earned Before Scale

The client was not prepared to shift its packaging range immediately. A lower-risk test path was needed so quality, pricing, and delivery performance could be judged before larger cooperation followed.

02  Our Solutions

We made the comparison practical: first match the expected production standard, then let smaller orders prove whether the supply model could work long term.

Benchmarking the Full Packaging Range at Production Standard

Instead of producing only one simplified presentation sample, PackCCP prepared production-standard samples across the client’s packaging range. This gave Wilderness Wear a direct basis for comparing structure, appearance, workmanship, and overall packaging quality against what it was already receiving locally.

Lowering the Risk of the First Orders

The client was allowed to begin with smaller order quantities while still receiving competitive pricing. This created a controlled transition rather than forcing Wilderness Wear to choose between staying with its existing Australian supplier or immediately committing to large-volume offshore production.

Lowering the Risk of the First Orders

As cooperation developed, PackCCP also reviewed incoming artwork carefully and flagged small issues before production. This reduced the chance of avoidable printing mistakes and gradually shifted the relationship from “packaging vendor” toward a supplier the client could rely on for routine packaging execution.

03  How We Executed the Project

Stage

What We Did

Why it Mattered

Set the Benchmark

what

Reviewed the client’s existing expectations and produced production-standard samples for the broader packaging range rather than relying on a single basic prototype.

why

Let Wilderness Wear compare real quality before changing an established local sourcing model.

Test with Small Orders

what

Supported smaller initial orders while maintaining competitive pricing and production standards.

why

Reduced the commercial risk of trialing a new overseas packaging supplier.

Build Reliability Through Detail

what

Checked artwork carefully, identified small errors, and maintained consistent communication around production details.

why

Prevented avoidable mistakes and reduced the amount of checking required from the client.

Move to Direct Production

what

After repeated successful cooperation, new packaging projects could proceed directly into production without requiring a new sample every time.

why

Showed that trust had moved beyond trial orders into an established working system.

04  Outcome & Client Value

From Supplier Comparison to Direct Production

“The team is very professional and often catches small artwork errors before production. Delivery, pricing, and quality have all performed better than our previous Australian packaging supplier.”
